How You Can Tap Into Autumn’s Energy This Year

"Some of us think holding on makes us strong, but sometimes it is letting go. As the trees show us the beauty in letting go of their leaves, let us show the world our own beauty by letting go of all that holds us back from becoming who we truly are.”
-Hermann Hesse, novelist and poet

The transition from summer to fall brings a change in our personal energy.

The transition from summer to fall always seems to come on so quickly. Just as I’m getting into my summer groove, it's back to school, there’s a nip in the air, the days are noticeably shorter, and the autumn leaves begin to dazzle with brilliant colors.

Along with storing away flip-flops and other summery clothes, fall is also a time to transition from a carefree spontaneous attitude to a more serious and structured approach.

Although I lament the passing of long summer days, I look forward to the unique and precious energy of fall for it is truly a time to turn inward, clear anything holding you back, and begin to renew for next spring.

Embrace autumn’s unique reminders to use in life!

Now, a month into the new school year and in the midst of the Jewish High Holidays, I can honestly say that I have embraced the fall season and its opportunity for introspection, honesty, and release.

Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, is an opportunity to honestly review the past year and thoughtfully consider what went well, and what did not, and assess our own actions and responsibility for our lives.

Many traditions and cultures see the fall season as a time to look inward and take stock. We all have the opportunity to let go of what is no longer serving us, in our actions, our thoughts, our behaviors, and our relationships.

What better time of year to let go of what is no longer serving us, to create space for something new, than when the natural world around us begins to shed its showy foliage to reveal bare branches?

Trees can be our guide and our inspiration as we move into this new season. Once the leaves have fallen to the ground, there is nothing to conceal broken branches, pests, or other things that would do harm to the tree’s health.

We too can take this time to remove distractions and allow the essence of who we are to be revealed to others but most importantly to ourselves.

Whereas trees must rely on wind and other external forces to remove what is inhibiting their growth, we have the ability to release what is keeping us stuck physically, emotionally, and spiritually.

Trying to do it all on your own may feel like you are spinning in the same circles over, and over and over.

Here is the key, although we must do this work for ourselves, it is nearly impossible to do it alone.

Working with a coach is an effective way to get the significant and powerful results you most desire.

As we enter into this fall season, it is time, your time, to courageously release what’s holding you back to make room for new growth.
